TGIF: This Game Is Fun

Well it is Friday so why not have a run down of what has been fun this week.

We start this week with an update on the Final Fantasy XV film titled ‘Kingsglaive.’ Square Enix have recently updated the Japanese site  for the upcoming title with new character information and still photos; all looking a lush as the FFXV world has been so far.

The film is expected to release just before Final Fantasy XV’s launch date (30 September) and will set the pace of what is happening in Lucis whilst Noctis & friends are on their own main storyline journey.

“SOME ARE SOLDIERS, WE ARE GHOSTS. We operate far beyond legions and armies, following our own rules. We change the fate of nations from the shadows. We are legends. We are GHOSTS.”

Ubisoft this week revealed the new trailer with showing in game action alongside information on the 4 editions of ‘Ghost Recon: Wildlands’ that will be available; which are:

  • Standard
  • Deluxe
  • Gold
  • Collector

Ubisoft also advertised that any pre-orders will receive a bonus mission set in Bolivia.

On a rather nervous note, upcoming game title No Man’s Sky, has been rumoured to have been delayed. The game was set to be released on June 21st but this seems to have been pushed back. At this moment and time it is still speculation but until official information is released, we are all in limbo as to whether this ambitious game will be delayed.nomansskylore.jpg

Now to end it with some trailers. Deus Ex just released the “Mechanical Apartheid” video:

and Fall Out 4 releases Mod’s on Xbox One first today:

Deus Ex is much loved game on this team making it one of our upcoming games of the summer. However even more importantly, this is the first time Mods have ever been on a console system — What a time to be alive.

as @majornelson said “thanks for watching… see you in the wasteland”

TGIF: This Game Is Fun

Well it is Friday so why not have a run down of what has been fun this week.

First on the list and really not a ‘game’ Star Trek is back with a new teaser trailer of their new series set to begin on CBS. The new series will be available on CBS’s on-demand/streaming platform and CBS All Access early next year. To be honest we’re not sure what to expect in terms of characters and story from the new series but it is set to have buzz around it when it airs on television.

Next up is Battleborn. They are kicking of the weekend vibes with a double XP weekend for all their players this weekend; as a bonus there is also the introduction of the latest DLC character: Alani.

Alani “the warrior-monk healer” releases officially on May 31st for all platforms and can be unlocked for 47,500 of in game credits. However, if you were lucky enough to be part of the early PS4 beta you get the character during this early access weekend and of course Digital Deluxe & Season Pass holders will be able to get Alani immediately by using a Hero Key. — Looks like they are getting set for summer with more free characters to come.

Ex Konami Game Director Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear solid, revealed his new logo’s inspiration, the full EVA (extra-vehicular activity) suit wearing Ludens. In a series of three tweets, Kojima spelled out what Ludens, a Latin participle of the root word “ludo,” which translates in English to “play,” means to the team. “Ludens, the icon of Kojima Productions,” he tweeted alongside the full picture posted below. “We’ll deliver THE NEW PLAY in THE NEW FUTURE with the cutting-edge equipment, technology, & the frontier spirit. The gear he’s wearing is the extra-vehicular activity(EVA) creative suit.”

Another minor thing in the gaming world is the upcoming E3 2016, set to showcase some of the line-up that gamers can expect from companies the likes of EA, Bethesda, Microsoft, Sony, PC Gaming Show and Ubisoft. Of course there will be other companies/Devs showcasing new technology like Samsung

And there was a little snippet of the week’s news

Bethesda Reveal: DLC Plans & Mods Confirmed For PS4

Fallout 4 is just two months away, which will likely speed by faster than we realize. With release approaching, Bethesda has revealed some of its plans for post-launch support.

As you might expect, there will be DLC coming down the road. Add-ons will start to appear in early 2016, but details are sparse right now. A season pass will be available for $30, with a guarantee that it will save at least $10 for those who purchase it.

We’ve known that mod support is coming for PC, with curated selections coming to Xbox One after. We now know that PlayStation 4 users will be getting those same mods, but some time after they hit Xbox One. The creation kit won’t be available on PC until early in 2016, so don’t expect these to start flowing to console for a number of months.

Finally, Bethesda says it will be tapping the community for its own post-launch updates. The developer references its work enhancing Skyrim with mounted combat, kill cams, and legendary mode as examples of what might be coming for Fallout 4. The company says it will listen to the community to help direct its efforts.

We still don’t know much about Fallout 4, and that’s by design. Bethesda is keeping story and gameplay out of our hands for now, in hopes that players get to discover it themselves. We’ll be exploring Boston’s wasteland together come November 10 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

For more on Fallout 4, you can read our extensive breakdown of the attendee-only demo from QuakeCon.

E3 ‘the gaming Mecca’ : Day 0

e3-header-overlay-latest

Here we have the final press conference of E3 Day 0, by this point most people who watched and were involved with the day were nearing that tired phase but new games always perk us right up. Playstation did not disappoint this year with their roster of games and hardware

Playstation began immediately with a much awaited return of some of the finest storytelling in gameplay history in the form of The Last Guardian the first of many  exclusives to be announced

After building the hype Sony then came from the left field with a game no one had heard of until yesterday (Day 0) in the form of Horizon: Zero Dawn. The tale follows remnants of the human race we know today living in a manner most likely to remind you of American Indians; except instead of fighting your fellow man, the game will lead you into situations that test the skills of your tribe… because “a storm is coming.”

Playstation kept the ball rolling with more great gameplay demos and titles to peak interests. Next up was the re-introduction of Agent 47 in HITMAN and the Playstation 4 exclusive Street Fighter V

HITMAN:

STREETFIGHTER V:

An appearance from last year’s successful No Man’s Sky team was well received again this year at E3 as last year was the idea being presented. This year we got to see how the space. no. How the Universe exploration game actually works, looks and feels. No Man’s Sky boasts its almost unimaginable sense of scale and for the first time we got to see it:

This piece of gameplay was then bolstered even further with Sony’s introduction of one of the more very well voice acted games in the current E3 line up Firewatch combined with an immersive atmosphere makes this a game to watch out for in the coming months.

Playstation’s first person shooter Destiny also made an appearance with news on their expansion DLC: The Taken King, which adds more content to the game for those who have completed the initial game campaign with the addition off a new adversary. his Father. (tried my hardest not to spoil)

Playstation also brought up some off their Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate exclusives which this year included some missions involving a string of murders within the city of London. Either protagonist character is able to be used for these but they are exclusive to Playstation 4

After Assassin’s Creed came the unveiling of a new Square Enix title in the form of Final Fantasy: World of Final Fantasy (2016 release)

But arguably the main event of this press conference was that finally after years of requests by the fans of the Final Fantasy series the staff at Square Enix finally decided to reveal Final Fantasy VII the Remake — which is the game remastered in 1080p next Gen graphics

After the hype of Final Fantasy we were then shown how some games like octodad & other kick-starters can be really successful by being directly helped by their fan base. Shenmue III a much loved J-RPG was shown to be the next in line to try and reach the same heights as a kickstarter by putting the “fate of Shenmue in your hands”

Batman Arkham Knight also made an appearance with the Playstation showing off their Scarecrow missions within the game. Moving on from this like Microsoft, Playstation also had some VR gaming (virtual reality) to show with Project Morpheus. Going the step further than Microsoft’s Oculus technology and announcing VR multiplayer experience

With that covered Playstation unveiled a shift in terms of CoD, which is now home at Playstation. Only last year did Xbox have all the CoD perks of first to get maps and Beta testing but now it seems that the Playstation 4 has taken up the mantle with Call of Duty: Black Ops III exclusive beta gameplay

Now this was towards the end of Sony’s Playstation press conference and to end they decided to show the partnership between Lucas Arts and the Playstation in the form of Disney Infinity. This partnership of course displayed a Star Wars link within Disney Infinity; showing how the Star Wars Saga is multi-generational & reflecting that in their entertainment. The initial phase is to produce the Star Wars Trilogy and then to bring in the original set of films for the older generation that grew up with that era of Lucas film & combining both experiences for a family like feel.

This led into the main attraction of the Star Wars fan time with the display of the upcoming release Star Wars Battlefront; looking great on the Playstation system the game demo performed well in displaying how the battles can escalate.

This press conference ended with the live gameplay demo of Sony’s Playstation’s title Uncharted 4 : A Thief’s End

and with that the conference came to a close. What games did you think seemed really good? any favourites? any NEW favourites?

E3 Day 0 proved not to disappoint and it is just the beginning

Next Gen Season: Games to look out for

In 2015 the line of games to come out so far, for the most part, have been exemplary albeit a few with personal touches that were not to everyone’s taste but all in all that was the game created…. The Order:1886 (Too short for the price), Assassin’s Creed: Unity (Just seems not liked by fans.), Evolve (Fun but ultimately repetitive in gameplay.) However even though that is the case, no one denies the sheer brilliance of the way Next Gen is looking, and why not when there’s more to come like this:

If you’re completely new to this title then you are either too young or SHAME ON YOU. In a world where there is nothing – no rules, no governments or armies. In a world of nothing what do you do when your nothing is taken from you? Mad Max the game, in time for its film reboot counterpart, is set to grace us with just this kind of dilemma. This open world game sets itself up to be stunningly impressive with its end of world/post apocalyptic take of the world we know now.

Mad Max the game

Since we’re talking big names why not one of the gaming industry’s greatest technically detailed espionage and military science storylines set during and after the Cold War authors, the late Tom Clancy. With wind of his Rainbow Six series returning the Tom Clancy fan base hasn’t been this excited for quite some time. Rainbow Six Siege seems to bring back the realistic side of special forces that can be argued to have been lost in current renders of the same genre, ergo: Call of Duty and so on. Hopefully the game will live up to the expected heights of one of the most liked parts of the Tom Clancy gaming franchise.

Rainbow Six: Siege

For this game we move to one of the oldest modern fighting games within it’s genre. Tekken, if you do not know, is a fighting game with the storyline of fighting in a martial arts tournament and achieving whichever selected character your playing as’ goal. The true story however, is the story of one family fighting each other for reasons that seem to be revenge. This infighting has carried the series from start to the current Tekken until now where we find out who will win. The father or the son.

Tekken 7

We shall leave it there for now but of course this list is sure to grow with bigger and better games.

more to follow as always

Next Gen Season: Games to look out for

We are in great times for gaming this season, with previous releases in our ‘Next Gen’ year like Far Cry 4 or more recently Mortal Kombat X showing what we all want our next gaming cycle to look like.

To keep up with this why don’t we show you what else is on the horizon, just incase you didn’t know:

Arguably the most loved part of the Call of Duty franchise’s third instalment –

Black Ops III

Coincidence or not with movements of DC comics’ steady creation of ‘Dawn of Justice,’ the caped crusader is once again facing the perils of Arkham but now in the city. His city. Will you follow him?

Batman: Arkham Knight

This next one is a personal favourite in terms of presentation and general excitement. But when it comes to overthrowing rogue governments and combining it with an array of weapons, stunts (both ground level and aerial) & a general result of explosions due to said actions; this game has had fans since showing all you need is a grappling hook and a parachute to get things done

Just Cause 3

The next game is a still seen as being one of the, arguably, best  game creations of gaming history. It’s first instalment is still used as a benchmark of, all if not most, games that follow the supernatural hunter in a medieval era genre. Still moving forward with it’s impressive second game (currently being played =^_^=) the time has now come for the Wild Hunt to join the franchise-

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Keep an eye out for more from the Next Gen Season list as this list has only begun

more to come as always

Nothing like some tongue to bring you closer (Evolve. Not That.)

Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking otherwise: size matters. Evolve’s fourth monster, Behemoth, is lumbering, rolling proof of it. I got a chance to take the new biggest kid-on-the-block for a spin, and he’s a lot more interesting than you’d imagine a hulking physical brute to be.behemoth_info

It would be natural to assume, from his nearly comical size, that Behemoth is all about simply overpowering your opponents. After all, his health and armor pools are roughly 30% larger than the already-beefy Goliath’s. But those are resources he needs to be careful with. Throwing away armor to get in the hunter’s face is actually the easiest way to get yourself killed as Behemoth. What you need to do instead is make the hunters come to you on your terms.

To that end, three of behemoth’s four abilities are about controlling space, and the movement of your humanoid adversaries. The most obvious expression of that idea is the rock wall ability, which creates an indestructible, all but impassable barrier at a spot of your choosing. Especially in tight areas, this completely cuts off the hunters, forcing them to change their mode of approach, or just leave you alone.

Lava bomb is similar, in that it covers a large area with persistent fire for 15 seconds, effectively putting up a big “don’t go here” sign for the hunters. Finally, tongue lash allows Behemoth to bring one target hunter to where he is from a long ways out. Using these three attacks in tandem with one another takes a surprising amount of creativity, timing, and finesse, giving Behemoth arguably a higher skill ceiling than any other monster, except perhaps for Kraken.

For instance, you could shoot a lava bomb directly in front of you, then land a long-distance tongue lash to invite one unlucky hunter over into the fire. You could even land a good right hook on them as they soar through the air toward you if you time it right, and Behemoth’s generous melee reach makes it more doable than you think. The combo I loved though, was landing a good tongue lash, then throwing a rock wall down between my target and his buddies while he’s still in flight, then crouch, and pounce him just after he lands. The timing is tight, but I managed it once, resulting in my beating the hunter lifeless while my rock wall left his friends with nothing to do but stand around and watch it happen. Really satisfying stuff.
