TGIF: This Game Is Fun

Well it is Friday so why not have a run down of what has been fun this week.

We start this week with an update on the Final Fantasy XV film titled ‘Kingsglaive.’ Square Enix have recently updated the Japanese site  for the upcoming title with new character information and still photos; all looking a lush as the FFXV world has been so far.

The film is expected to release just before Final Fantasy XV’s launch date (30 September) and will set the pace of what is happening in Lucis whilst Noctis & friends are on their own main storyline journey.

Ubisoft this week revealed the new trailer with showing in game action alongside information on the 4 editions of ‘Ghost Recon: Wildlands’ that will be available; which are:

• Standard
• Deluxe
• Gold
• Collector

 

 

Ubisoft also advertised that any pre-orders will receive a bonus mission set in Bolivia.

On a rather nervous note, upcoming game title No Man’s Sky, has been rumoured to have been delayed. The game was set to be released on June 21st but this seems to have been pushed back. At this moment and time it is still speculation but until official information is released, we are all in limbo as to whether this ambitious game will be delayed.

TGIF: This Game Is Fun

Well it is Friday so why not have a run down of what has been fun this week.

First on the list and really not a ‘game’ Star Trek is back with a new teaser trailer of their new series set to begin on CBS. The new series will be available on CBS’s on-demand/streaming platform and CBS All Access early next year. To be honest we’re not sure what to expect in terms of characters and story from the new series but it is set to have buzz around it when it airs on television.

Next up is Battleborn. They are kicking of the weekend vibes with a double XP weekend for all their players this weekend; as a bonus there is also the introduction of the latest DLC character: Alani.

Alani “the warrior-monk healer” releases officially on May 31st for all platforms and can be unlocked for 47,500 of in game credits. However, if you were lucky enough to be part of the early PS4 beta you get the character during this early access weekend and of course Digital Deluxe & Season Pass holders will be able to get Alani immediately by using a Hero Key. — Looks like they are getting set for summer with more free characters to come.

Ex Konami Game Director Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear solid, revealed his new logo’s inspiration, the full EVA (extra-vehicular activity) suit wearing Ludens. In a series of three tweets, Kojima spelled out what Ludens, a Latin participle of the root word “ludo,” which translates in English to “play,” means to the team. “Ludens, the icon of Kojima Productions,” he tweeted alongside the full picture posted below. “We’ll deliver THE NEW PLAY in THE NEW FUTURE with the cutting-edge equipment, technology, & the frontier spirit. The gear he’s wearing is the extra-vehicular activity(EVA) creative suit.”

Another minor thing in the gaming world is the upcoming E3 2016, set to showcase some of the line-up that gamers can expect from companies the likes of EA, Bethesda, Microsoft, Sony, PC Gaming Show and Ubisoft. Of course there will be other companies/Devs showcasing new technology like Samsung

The betawatch is over

On the 7th of May, thanks to Meltdown London, a full day of Overwatch was playable; and boy did we play. Coming in with only a few games of experience I thought myself a noob in the making — that being said it is a beta…

Without a shadow of a doubt within a few games of Overwatch, One became a fan.

The Team Fortress/Smite feel leads to some exciting and highly hectic gameplay. from one moment you may be playing the objective only to become caught up in simply hunting and eliminating the other team.

Overwatch definitely boasts why Blizzard is a seasoned veteran in the gaming market; with gameplay being deceptively quick and concise (meaning when you lose it’s not long til you want to jump back in.) A plethora of characters to choose from to fit your fighting styles. So whether you are a defence type (Bastion), speedy type (Tracer) or straight up powerhouse (Rinehart), there’s a character for you.

I found that my adoration of Mechs led to the obvious choice of mech wielding gamer girl D.VA

So if you get a chance, do try out Overwatch when it is released this month on May 24th

 

 

To Infinity and beyond?

Sad to see but the toys-to-life market seems to have cost Disney too much for their personal plans. $147 million to be exact; and with that have decided to cancel their Infinity series.

Disney’s game publishing arm, which appears to be defunct at this point, is part of the Consumer Products & Interactive Media division. That group saw a dip of 2% year-over-year for the quarter, but is up 4% at the half-year mark.

With this news they released a statement in which they said:

“After a thorough evaluation, we have modified our approach to console gaming and will transition exclusively to a licensing model,” says Disney consumer products and interactive media chairman Jimmy Pitaro. “This shift in strategy means we will cease production of Disney Infinity, where the lack of growth in the toys-to-life market, coupled with high development costs, has created a challenging business model.  This means that we will be shutting down Avalanche, our internal studio that developed the game.  This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans.”

It is a shame that the Infinity series reached this point, thoughts go out to the employees affected by this situation with the CEO Bob Iger adding “..I give the developer a lot of credit for the product that they made. It was extremely well-received. But we knew going in that there would be a lot of risk with this product and the fact that we did so well initially gave us the confidence to continue with it. The truth of the matter is that the risks that we saw at the beginning when we started this caught up with us.”

Sad news but we hope the people affected move on to better opportunities.

Nintendo NX Cartridges!?

Nintendo has hit the rumour side of the web again with the current being it may be a hybrid system that might bring back the use of cartridges. Speculation has come from Macronix, Nintendo’s long time producer of ROM chips (think of 3DS game chips), seemingly saying they expect an increased order from Nintendo in the latter part of this year for their products.

Nintendo still hasn’t given substantial information on the actual NX system itself or what it actually is; however, promises of more information on the hardware after E3 2016 is something most gaming fans are looking forward to.

Hey guys and girls, after the longest sabbatical gaming news is going to be back on this; so without rambling too much lets pretend CMedia has been here since LittleRocket came back ^_^

So let’s begin with the current hype:

If you didnt know, Nintendo’s anticipated next gen console (the NX) is set to be realesed in the month of March 2017 — and yet it wont be at E3 2016… what do you think?

Did you enjoy Borderlands? With their release of Battleborn, the Borderlands creator’s wanted to see if they could do something fresh

But with Overwatch beta testing looming around the victor of this Arena style gaming throne is yet to be decided. Look out for a closer look at Overwatch in the coming days.

On the other end of the spectrum Street Fighter V has been allowing players to enjoy the classic character Guile as the latest addition to the current character roster. With the rumoured infinite combo! (46 hit combo if you’re good enough.) He looks back with more than just his comb…. “Sonic Boom.”

And just to leave you with fresh new, November shall again see the return of Infinity Ward with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare:

TGS: Everything Sony

Sony’s TGS keynote presentation included information on new Bloodborne DLC, another Kingdom Hearts bundle, and many more announcements.

Bloodborne’s first DLC, The Old Hunters, will be available November 24. A special edition of Bloodborne that includes the Old Hunters DLC will be available on December 3

Gravity Daze, or Gravity Rush in the Western release, is coming to PS4 on December 10 for Japan and February 2016 for Europe and North America. Sony also announced a 2016 release window for Gravity Daze 2 and showed off a new trailer and a 2016 release window.

Ubisoft revealed a new trailer that features the first playable hero in For Honor, The Oni. The trailer includes information on the hero’s attributes, abilities, and gear.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Jack the Ripper story DLC was revealed with a new trailer.

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Yakuza is getting an HD remake. The remake includes demo of Yakuza 6, the newly announced Yakuza title for PS4 that’s set to be out in Japan in fall 2016.

Square Enix announced SaGa Scarlet Grace for PS Vita along with its 2016 release window. (I should know what that says…but… #sony)

The next Kingdom Hearts compilation coming later this year, Kingdom Hearts 2.8, features Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, Birth By Sleep 0.2, and scenes for Unchained X for the PS4.

Square Enix revealed that Dragon Quest Builders will be out on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita on January 28, 2016 in Japan.

Spike Chunsoft announced that the next entry in the main Danganronpa series, Danganronpa 3, will be out on PS4 and PS Vita.

While we have to wait a little bit longer in the West, From Software has confirmed when Dark Souls 3 will be launching in Japan.

Capcom has announced Biohazard: Umbrella Corps, a competitive shooter for PC and PS4, set in the Resident Evil universe.

Square Enix took to the stage to announce when Japanese gamers will get their hands on the fifth game in the sci-fi RPG series.

Koei Tecmo has showcased a segment of gameplay for its upcoming slash ’em up Nioh, ahead of its PS4-only release in 2016.

Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma – Release Dates (PC & PS4)

Redacted Studios and Versus Evil have announced that Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma, Volume 1 will be available for PC and PS4 on September 22.

It will also be available for Xbox One, but the release date for this version is yet to be announced.

It’s set to be released in three volumes. A bundle including all three will be available from day one for $35 on PC, and 20 percent off on PlayStation. PS Plus members will get 30 percent off. If you want to buy each volume separately, it’ll cost you $15 for each one.

Bethesda Reveal: DLC Plans & Mods Confirmed For PS4

Fallout 4 is just two months away, which will likely speed by faster than we realize. With release approaching, Bethesda has revealed some of its plans for post-launch support.

As you might expect, there will be DLC coming down the road. Add-ons will start to appear in early 2016, but details are sparse right now. A season pass will be available for $30, with a guarantee that it will save at least $10 for those who purchase it.

We’ve known that mod support is coming for PC, with curated selections coming to Xbox One after. We now know that PlayStation 4 users will be getting those same mods, but some time after they hit Xbox One. The creation kit won’t be available on PC until early in 2016, so don’t expect these to start flowing to console for a number of months.

Finally, Bethesda says it will be tapping the community for its own post-launch updates. The developer references its work enhancing Skyrim with mounted combat, kill cams, and legendary mode as examples of what might be coming for Fallout 4. The company says it will listen to the community to help direct its efforts.

We still don’t know much about Fallout 4, and that’s by design. Bethesda is keeping story and gameplay out of our hands for now, in hopes that players get to discover it themselves. We’ll be exploring Boston’s wasteland together come November 10 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Been silent. But no more. First Batman

While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars both Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader and Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, rumor has it Warner Bros. is looking to minimise Cavill’s presence in favor of shining more of the spotlight on Affleck.

According to Heroic Hollywood, the studio is requesting that more Batman footage be added to the film, while cutting down on the screen time afforded to Superman. Apparently Affleck’s Batman is so impressive, he’s outshining Cavill’s Man of Steel.

Earlier this year, a report claimed, Ben Affleck will be directing and starring in a solo Batman movie. Thanks to Nolan’s successful trilogy of Batman films and the popularity of Rocksteady’s Arkham games, there’s no doubt Warner is banking heavily on Affleck’s take on the character.
